Emergency Medical Technician

• Assisting with admission, transfer, and discharges of patients.

• Observing patient's condition, recognizing changes in patient status, and reporting findings to the RN.

• Escorting stable patients to other departments as required.

• Cleaning, procuring, and returning equipment and supplies.

• Maintaining competency to perform special procedures such as venipuncture, splinting, and nonsterile dressing changes.

• Setting up for Emergency Department procedures and assisting the RN as directed.

• Operating patient monitoring equipment and performing phlebotomy under the direction of the RN.

• A High School Diploma or GED is preferred.

• Completion of an EMT program or equivalent experience is required.

• 1-2 years of patient care experience in an acute care hospital, emergency department, or military medic setting preferred.

• BLS certification is required.

• Must maintain one of the following certifications: Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, or Emergency Medical Technician certification.

Clinical Duties

• Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
• Observe patient's condition, recognize changes, and report findings to the RN.
• Perform phlebotomy and collect laboratory specimens as ordered.
• Operate patient monitoring equipment and record rhythm strips.

Administrative

• Serve as a receptionist for the unit and transcribe orders.
• Document necessary demographic, insurance, and financial information.

Required

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Completion of an EMT program or equivalent experience.

Preferred

• 1-2 years of patient care experience in an acute care setting.

Certifications

• BLS required.
• Certified Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, or EMT certification.

Experience

Experience in emergency care or military medic setting preferred.
